Advice Column Question & Answer

Subject: Breastfeeding as Birth Control

QUESTION:

I have heard that you can not get pregnant while breastfeeding. Is this true?

REPLY:

Breastfeeding is NOT a form of birth control. Women who are breastfeeding are limited to the type of birth control they can use during this time and some forms of birth control, the odds of getting pregnant actually increases. Women on birth control and breastfeeding have a low chance of ovulating but its not impossible.
