Subject: Hot Tub SexQUESTION: Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but I just want to be sure..... A friend told me she got an infection from sex in a hot tub, and I've heard from other people that sex in a hot tub is not recommended. The infection is the result of the water in the hot tub, right? (Lots of different people, water not being changed, bacteria, whatever), not as a cause of the heat, right? The reason I ask is, I regularly have sex in our Jacuzzi tub and I just want to make sure I'm not exposing my partner to the risk of infection. REPLY: No such thing as a stupid question. In a hot tub, the problem is the forcing of water under pressure (from thrusting of the penis for heterosexual couples or fingers or objects for any female couple) up into the female's fallopian tubes. Chemicals in the water (chlorine, etc.) can irritate the area and cause scarring, which can lead to endometriosis, pain and infertility. I can't honestly tell you if sex in a home Jacuzzi would have the same dangers. In this case, the water would not be laced with the same amount of chemicals, but it would be hot and under pressure. Is that enough to cause irritation? Sorry, I don't know.
